Update 4/24

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is to review the Chapter 8 Practice Test we completed in class today.  Students were given the correct answers at the end of class today and were asked to circle any items that they weren't able to complete correctly.  Please make sure your child focuses on those circled items to help them prepare for the Chapter 3 test.  We will have that test tomorrow! Please don't forget that tomorrow night is curriculum night.  Students have been learning all about building and programming robots this week, and I'm sure they'd love to show you what they've learned.  Come out tomorrow night to check it out :-) Have a great evening!

Update 4/19

Hi Parents, Tonight's work is lesson 8.3, both sides of the homework page.  We may or may not discuss tomorrow, since it's field trip day! Please remember to send your child a sack lunch for tomorrow, since there is be no place to get food while on the trip.  Also, you may want to send your child a small, non-messy snack, since our lunchtime will be delayed until 12:30. Finally, please check your email for some information about a project that was given to students today.  I'm sending the information via email, rather than posting here, since I'm also attaching a copy of the project sheet. Please let us know if you have questions!

Update 4/17

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 459-460 in the textbook.  Yes, this IS a bit more than I typically assign, but we've reached the point in the school year where we really need to start reviewing older material in preparation for 5th grade :-)  As always, if your child's homework is causing excessive frustration or taking way too long, please feel free to use your discretion to stop the homework and just send me a quick note.  Also, save the date, next Wednesday (4/25) for HES curriculum night.  We'd love to see all parents come out and see some fun things your child has been learning in math and science! Have a great evening!

Update 4/16

Hi Parents! Welcome back to school!  I hope you all had a wonderful spring break!  Today, students took a pretest for Unit 7 in math.  There is no official homework, but students are encouraged to begin previewing the content in chapters 8 and 9.  Also, a number of students did not take or did not finish the chapter 11 test on Friday, 4/6.  I didn't want to make them jump right back into it today, but I've asked them to review the Chapter 11 content tonight and prepare for a make up test tomorrow. In ELA, we are working on making connections during our reading.  Students are working with partners to read informational texts and share their text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections.  We're also continuing to work on our fractured fairy tale compositions. Don't forget our field trip to Topsail Island this Friday.  I believe all students indicated on the permission slip that they would bring a lunch, so please make sure your chi...

Update 4/5

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is to study for the Chapter 11 math test scheduled for tomorrow.  We completed a practice test in class today and reviewed the correct answers.  Students were asked to circle any problem that they did not answer correctly and to review it tonight at home.  Please encourage your child to look back in the text, watch the corresponding video, work more practice problems....anything that helps them understand the content! Also, today was the due date for permission slips for our study trip on 4/20.  I can still accept them tomorrow, but I do need to be able to give a head count to the folks at Ecological Marine Adventures, so please get those slips in ASAP.  We also have space for 2 more chaperones, so if you're interested in coming along, please let me know. Have a great evening!

Update 4/3

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 625.  Students were allowed to take protractors home to help with this assignment.  Please make sure they come back!  Also, don't forget that tomorrow is this week's "Purple up" day.  Students are allowed to wear their purple T-shirts. Thursday is Picture Day.  Students may wear a school-appropriate outfit of their choice. Friday is our Autism Walk.  Students are encouraged to wear blue.  I'd also suggest sneakers or other good walking shoes, since we'll be walking around the school. Have a great evening!

Update 3/29

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 611 in the textbook.  This was a pretty challenging lesson for some of our students, so please encourage them to use their Think Central resources if they need help.  Also, most students need to finish a Social Studies assignment for Ms. Spradlin.  This should be done independently, but students are encouraged to use the book. Don't forget to come out for PTO Bingo night!  The prize baskets look great!  Look forward to seeing all our families here at Heroes this evening!
