Update 1/30

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is the practice test starting on page 709 in the math book.  Students should have completed the odd numbered items (except #s 5 and 11, which we haven't covered this chapter), and are expected to complete the even numbered items for homework.  We will go over these problems right before tomorrow's test, so encourage your child to bring all questions to class tomorrow! Also, we have two special dress days coming up on Thursday and Friday of this week.  On Thursday, students are encouraged to wear red to support the kick of our school's Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.  Friday is Jersey Day--students may wear their favorite jersey to school! Have a great evening!

Update 1/29

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 707 and the first 2 problems on 708. Students are also encouraged to begin reviewing for the Chapter 12 test that will be given on Wednesday.  Tomorrow we'll begin a practice test activity, students will have more practice problems for homework tomorrow night, and we'll make sure to have one last opportunity for questions on Wednesday before the test.  Please encourage your child to work on any parts of the chapter that they feel shaky on. Tomorrow we will have class pictures.  Students should be wearing school uniforms.  If you'd like to buy a picture, you must send in $10 tomorrow (if you haven't already!) Also, please note that the 1st Semester Awards Ceremony has been scheduled for 2/9 at 2:15.  We had originally hoped to have it on 2/2, but we had some logistical problems and had to reschedule.  If your child is receiving an award, you will get an invitation with all the details in your child's report card e...

Update 1/23

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 695 in the textbook.  We're working on solving problems with elapsed time.  If your child has trouble, please encourage him/her to use the "timeline" strategy. Don't forget that Friday is a teacher workday.  The 4th and 5th grades have tentatively scheduled a 1st semester awards ceremony on Friday, February 2.  Awards are given for all As, As and Bs, and character awards. If your child will be receiving an award, you should receive a paper invitation on Monday of next week. Also, class pictures are rescheduled for 1/30.  It isn't too late to send in your $10.  If you'd like a class pic, just put the money in an envelope labeled with your child's name by the 30th. Have a great evening!

Update 1/22

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is a review worksheet for 2nd quarter math concepts.  On Wednesday, students will take a quarterly math assessment, so we thought it would be helpful to practice a few of the skills we've done over the past 9 weeks.  Please feel free to help your child as much you he/she needs.  We will go over this in class tomorrow. This week our main project is to finish typing our 5 paragraph reptile reports.  Most students have finished their rough drafts, and the typed copy is due no later than Thursday.  This will be the final writing grade for 2nd quarter.  All reports are being typed in the students' google drives, so your child may type at home, if necessary. In math, we continue to work with measurement.  We've finished talking about the customary units of measure and are now working on the metric units.  A test is planned for next week.  Also, students who scored below 75% on the Chapter 4 (Part B) test were gi...

Update 1/16

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is spread across 3 pages in the textbook:  page 651, #s 2, 3, &4; page 657, #s 2, 3, 4, 5; and page 663, #s 2, 3, 4, 5.  Students should have these marked in their books. Today we're beginning Chapter 12, which focuses on measurement conversions.  This is pretty new ground for most 4th graders, and relies heavily on multiplication, so please check in with your child and see if he/she needs help. Also, Girls on the Run information fliers went home today.  Please do not let finances stop your child from participating.  The fees do tend to be expensive, so if your daughter wants to join the club and the cost is prohibitive, please confidentially email me or Ms. Brown.  There are scholarships available, if needed. Have a great evening!

Update 1/11

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is designed to help your child study for tomorrow's math test.  Students were assigned page 273, #s 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 21 to complete today in class.  We checked answers for accuracy, and students were asked to correct any missed problems at home tonight.  These problems are similar to those that will be included on tomorrow's test, so please encourage your child to do his/her best with the corrections and to re-watch any lesson videos necessary.  The lessons included in this test are 4.7, 4.8, and 4.12. Also, one of the sources we're using this week for our study of MLK Jr. is the animated movie Our Friend Martin .  This is a great, kid-friendly movie, so I wanted to share the link in case your child would like to re-watch it or for those students who missed it. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Update 1/9

Hi Parents! Welcome back to school...finally!  Tonight's homework is page 245.  Students are finding quotients using the partial quotients strategy.  If you need a little help, here's a great video that explains how it's done: Tomorrow will be our last lesson from the 2nd part of Chapter 4.  We'll have a practice test on Thursday, and will have the Chapter 4 (part b) test on Friday.  The test will only cover sections 4.7, 4.8, and 4.12, so please encourage your child to use Think Central to watch the videos and practice solving problems from these sections. This week in Reading, we'll be working on comparing and contrasting two different sources of information on the Civil Rights Movement.  In writing, we'll be beginning to put together our 5 paragraph reptile report.  In Science, students are beginning a study of the many forms of energy, and in Social Studies, students are reviewing the landforms in the United States and will start learning ...

Update 1/2

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 239 in the textbook.  As I'm sure you've heard, school has been cancelled for the next two days.  Students are still expected to do their homework.  We'll check and go over it on Friday.  Don't forget to use the Think Central resources to help y our child out :-) Enjoy your unexpected time off and have fun making snowmen!! Have a great evening!
