10/16 Update

Hi Parents and families!

Welcome back to another great week.  Tonight's homework is page 91 in the textbook.  Students are working on using the distributive property to multiply.  This is the foundation of a lot of the other work we'll do in this chapter, so please help your child toward mastery.

We are beginning a program this week to help students master their multiplication facts (if you have a 5th grader, it might look familiar!).  Each week for the next 7 weeks, students will be pretested on a group of multiplication facts, will be expected to study the facts at home all week, then will be post-tested the following Monday to look for growth.  Today, students took a pretest focusing on "doubles."  Please ask your child to see his/her pretest and read the letter on the back for more information.  You'll receive another set of facts next Monday!

In ELA, we're wrapping up "personal narrative" writing and will be beginning to work on research and report writing skills this week.  This will last until Christmas, and will culminate in a 5 paragraph written report.  In reading, our story this week is Come on, Rain!.  Our grammar skill is identifying vivid verbs in a sentence.

Have a wonderful evening!
