Update 10/2

Hi Parents,

Happy Monday!  Tonight's homework is page 315.  At this point all 4th graders should have had their ThinkCentral accounts restored, so help is available by watching the lesson video that corresponds to lesson 5.6.

Today was our last lesson in Chapter 5, so tomorrow we will complete a practice/review test (some of which will be homework) that should allow you and your child to pinpoint any areas where extra practice is needed.  Students will also be bringing home their graded mid-chapter checkpoints today or tomorrow, which will be another useful tool for preparing for the Chapter 5 test.  The Chapter 5 test will be on Thursday.  Next up...Chapter 2!

This week in reading, we're reading Fireflies and discussing figurative language.  In small group, we're using Scholastic News to help us learn about identifying and using text structure to aid in comprehension.

In Social Studies, Mrs. Thompson's class is continuing to prepare their U.S. Regions presentations, and in Science, Mrs. Vermillion's class finished up Scientific Inquiry today and is beginning a study of earth science.

Finally, just a note about the dress code. We have been fairly lenient for the past few weeks, since we understand that new students may need some time to build up a new wardrobe and returning students may have been surprised to find that clothes that worked last year are no longer suitable (thank you summer growth spurts!)  At this point, however, we must start reporting dress code infractions, so please review the guidelines and make sure that your child's clothing is in compliance.  If not, he/she may be sent to the office to call home for a change of clothes.

Thanks for all your support!  Have a great evening!
