Update 2/28

Hi Parents! Just a reminder that Wednesdays are typically math review/remediation/enrichment days, so there is often no homework.  Students should still read an appropriate level book for at least 20 minutes, and this is also a great opportunity for your child to work on any math skills he/she may need practice with. Looking forward, we will be having a Chapter 7 test next week, and after that, will begin working with our Geometry unit. A huge THANK YOU to all our guest readers this week.  Our students have loved sharing stories with you! Have a great evening!

Update 2/27

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 427.  Students will need to add and subtract mixed numbers and MUST be able to simplify any fractions greater than one. Don't forget that Friday is a no-school day.  Conferences in the spring are by request only, so if you'd like to meet with me, please send me an email ASAP.  I'll be happy to set up a time :-) Have a great evening!

Update 2/26

Hi Parents, Tonight's homework is in section 7.5, page 413.  We're continuing to work on adding and subtracting fractions.  I'd also encourage students to watch the instructional video for section 7.7 to prepare for tomorrow's lesson. In another week or so, we will be beginning a new science unit.  We're lucky enough to have received some new curriculum resources that we'd like to try out, and to the end, we're asking each student to bring in one pocket folder with prongs.  We'll be using these to create a science journal.  If you're unable to provide one of these, please don't worry, since I have a collection of those here in the classroom that I'll be happy to share with your child. Also, don't forget that students should be logging all their reading minutes!  The student who turns in a log (with adult signatures) showing the greatest amount of reading time will win a prize from our Read Across America committee :-)  Also, tomorro...

Update 2/23

Hi Parents! We had a pre-test today in math class and will begin working more in-depth with Chapter 7 next week.  If you'd like to help your child get a little bit ahead and preview the upcoming lessons, we'll be working with sections 3, 4, and 5 on Monday, section 7 on Thursday, and section 8 on Wednesday.  Also, don't forget that next Friday is a conference day.  If you'd like to meet with me, please let me know! Finally, be sure and check your email for a schedule of Read Across America events for next week.  Students also took home a hard copy.  I look forward to seeing everyone's Dr. Seuss inspired outfits! Have a great weekend!

Conferences & Guest Readers Wanted!

Hello parents! We are looking for parents who would be able to come and read to our class.  The approximate times are: Tues/Wed/Thurs @ 8:45, but we're flexible.   Come on in and start our day off right by sharing your family's favorite children's book. Please let me know ASAP if you can come either of those days and read. Also, next Friday, 3/2 is spring conference day here at Heroes.  Unlike fall conference day, I will not schedule a conference with every student, but I will contact you if I have concerns I'd like to discuss with you.  Of course, parents may also request a conference, so please feel free to contact me if you think we need to meet. Have a great Wednesday!

Update 2/20

Hi Parents, Tonight's homework is page 421.  Tomorrow, we will be the skills contained in Chapter 6 + 7.1, 7.2, 7.6.  Our test will be on Thursday. In science, students are finishing up a study of energy, and in Social Studies, students are learning about landforms and features of the different regions. Please stay turned for details about our special dress days for Read Across American week!

Update 2/15

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 389.  Students may choose to answer all the questions on this page, or may answer the evens and watch the 7.2 video to prepare for tomorrow's lesson. Update 2/13

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 375.  As with previous nights, students may elect to complete only the even numbered problems in exchange for watching the 7.1 video in preparation for Thursday's lesson. Also, we will not be having a party tomorrow, but will be giving students some time to make a Valentines Day bag and exchange Valentines Day cards.  Students should have brought home a class list a week or so ago.  We did add a new student to our roster, today, so please add one more card to your list.  Thank you! Please don't forget that tonight is our "Dining to Donate" at Wendy's.  Please drop by the 1237 Birch St. location and mention our school.  Thanks for your support!

Hi Parents, Tonight's homework is page 369.  Students may choose to do all the problems, or may choose to watch the 6.8 video and complete the even numbered problems.  If your child watches the video, please sign his/her homework sheet to verify. Tomorrow night is Dining to Donate at Chick-Fil-A.  Please look for details on the flyer that was sent home today.  Also, please send in those box tops!  Our class would love to win for submitting the most! Have a great evening!

Update 2/8

Hi Parents! Tonight's math homework is page 355 in the textbook.  Tomorrow, we'll have a quiz on the first part of Chapter 6.  Please encourage your child to look back over sections 6.1-6.5 to make sure he/she understands the material. Please come out and support our PTO tonight for family night.  There will be food and fun activities.  Hope you can make it! Some students have homework assigned by Ms. Spradlin for tonight.  These are students who did not finish their assignment in Social Studies.  Please check in with your child and remind them to finish this assignment, if necessary. Have a great night!

Update 2/6

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 349, all problems, or alternately, even problems + watching the 6.5 lesson video.  If your child chooses to watch the video in lieu of doing the odd numbered problems, he/she will need a parent signature on the homework sheet verifying that he/she watched the video. Don't forget that the book fair is going on all week, and that tomorrow night is Family Night.  Please come and have some fun with us! Have a great evening!

Update 2/5

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is pages 343-344.  Students should complete all of page 343 and the Lesson Check section of 344.  As an alternate to doing all of the problems, students may choose to only complete the evens and, in addition, watch the 6.4 video on ThinkCentral to prepare for tomorrow's lesson.  If your child chooses the alternative option, please initial your child's homework page to verify that he/she watched the video. This week in reading, we're working on analyzing primary sources and will be returning to our study of MLK to work with his "I Have a Dream" speech.  We will also have a vocabulary quiz on the words we've been working with for the last 4 weeks.  Students should be able to spell, decompose, and explain the meaning of the following words:  beautiful classify community communities electricity happiness prettier You may want to help your child practice correct spelling and identifying the parts (prefix, root word, ...
