Tonight's homework is 10.3, page 565.  We're working on recognizing and classifying parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines.

Hi Parents, Tonight's homework is page 331.  We're beginning the study equivalent fractions.  If your child needs help, please encourage them to watch the 6.1 video on Think Central, or there is a Kahn Academy video on the student blog:  www.hes4thgrade.blogspot.com .  Tomorrow is "Jersey Day."  Students may wear any jersey or sports T-shirt.  We look forward to seeing all the students showing their favorite team's colors :-) Have a great evening!

Update 9/25

Hi Parents! Happy Monday!  Tonight's homework is page 289 in the textbook.  Mrs. Vermillion's class is currently able to access Think Central for help, but Mrs. Thompson's class is having some "technical difficulties," so students do not have access to online materials.  Please encourage your child to look back into the section if they need help. This week in reading, our fiction text is My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother , by Patricia Polacco.  With this text, we're working on character analysis and using text evidence to support ideas.  Our non-fiction selection is "Running Wild," an article from Scholastic magazine.  Students are using this text to practice close reading strategies.  In writing, we continue to work on editing skills and on composing personal narratives.  Next week students will begin working through the 5-step writing process to publish one of the rough drafts they've created over the last few weeks. Update 1/23

Hi Parents! Tonight's homework is page 695 in the textbook.  We're working on solving problems with elapsed time.  If your child has trouble, please encourage him/her to use the "timeline" strategy. Don't forget that Friday is a teacher workday.  The 4th and 5th grades have tentatively scheduled a 1st semester awards ceremony on Friday, February 2.  Awards are given for all As, As and Bs, and character awards. If your child will be receiving an award, you should receive a paper invitation on Monday of next week. Also, class pictures are rescheduled for 1/30.  It isn't too late to send in your $10.  If you'd like a class pic, just put the money in an envelope labeled with your child's name by the 30th.
